Cllr Mr Laurence Glander Laurence
and his wife Janet moved to Hartley in 2001. Laurence was born in Barnehurst and
lived in that locality for 45 years. After leaving school at 15, he attended
Bexley College where he trained to be a motor mechanic. After having grease
under his finger nails for 15 years, he decided to change tack and entered the
horticultural industry, spending the next 10 years getting even more unsavoury
stuff stuck under his fingernails! He eventually progressed in to the managerial
side of things and has spent the last 14 years as the Quality Control Manager of
a fibreglass company.Laurence has always been a keen walker and cyclist and makes the most of the beautiful area in which we live, as often as he can. However, since moving to Hartley and getting caught in a few major traffic jams at the Dartford Crossing on his daily commute, he decided to try his hand at motorcycling. He really enjoyed his new found freedom, and riding a motorcycle has opened up a whole new world to him. In the summer months, he often straps his tent to his bike and spends the weekend with like minded souls, in fields around the country. During the winter weekends, he likes nothing better than either exploring the local lanes or the small, history filled back streets of our capital city. One of the major advantages of the bike is that you can virtually just stop anywhere and have a good look round, without causing an obstruction to other road users. Laurence enjoys living in Hartley and is keen on helping to preserve it as a village that he wants to live in. This was his main reason for standing as a member of the Parish Council.
