Cllr Mr Robert Coates

I was born in South Norwood, London SE25, literally a stone's throw from Crystal Palace FC - needless to say I have been a lifelong supporter!  I attended both Primary and Grammar schools in Shirley, Croydon. I left school in June 1969 and worked for Barclays Bank,  Crosse & Blackwell and Geophysical Service International before settling down to what was to be over 31 years in the Civil Service.

I have lived in Hartley since 1992 and I married Linda in 1995. I accepted early retirement from the Civil Service in 2005 and after a short spell helping Linda in Hartley Library, I looked to being of further service to the community by standing for election as a Parish Councillor in June 2009.

My hobbies include angling, and lawn bowls, which I took up fairly recently.

After two years of "learning the ropes" as a Parish Councillor, I now feel that I am in a position to fulfil this role. I have found that it has required a steep learning curve, but I consider that I am now better equipped to fulfil my role.

I trust that since June 2009, I have met all of your expectations of me by serving the community of Hartley to the best of my ability. No doubt you will let me know if I don't.
